Yiu Pui Ling, despite experiencing spasm which has affected her speech and movement of hands, began inputting words with technical aids, the “blowing pipes”, since 1985. Her persistence led her to the completion of her first prose work collection, “The Bird in Wheelchair” in 2000; she later also became a columnist for the monthly, “Angel’s Heart”.
　　
Apart from literary, Pui Ling has active involvement in community services as well, where she visits and shares her life and writing experience in primary and secondary schools. She also participated and commented in the hearing of the Legislative Council Panel on Information Technology and Broadcasting on behalf of the people with disability in 2001, and was conferred at the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons” and the “Standard Charter Hong Kong Lifetime Marathon Award” in 2002 and 2007 respectively for her positive and fruitful life. Pui Ling wishes to share with others her stresses and difficulties encountered through literary creation and encourage them to love their life and be more active in community services in order to promote a harmonious and integrated society.
