‘Choice’ Trial Drama

Playwright: Shum Hang Fu, Artist with Disability

'This work is both moving and humorous' — Artist with Disability Shum Hang Fu focuses on the development of Monologue. This time, he bravely steps out of his comfort zone and challenges himself for the first time as a playwright with the theatrical piece 'Choice'. The story is based on Fu's personal experiences, sincerely portraying his struggles with his left hand and his conversations with his mother, revealing the pain of amputation and the journey of rebirth. It enables the audience to feel his courage and perseverance. Throughout this journey, Fu not only demonstrates fearless bravery and determination but also employs humour to convey brightness and hope in life to the audience.

Yauyan, Consultant

Yauyan Yau graduated with both Bachelor and Master Programme from CUHK with a major of Sociology, and Master Programme of Drama School in the HKAPA, majoring in Playwriting. 

 

He was awarded Outstanding Script at the 4th and 7th Young Playwrights Scheme for Best Workman and Cockroach, and Best Script at the Drama Festival 2015 for 86401s. 

 

His recent plays included graduation work Stuck Up; Recycle store by Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong; Out of Time by Playwright’s Studio; Cockroach by Cinematic Theatre. 

He is a playwright and school teacher, and founding member of Meet Me Five.

Liu Ka Lam, Photographer

Currently a freelance photographer, focusing on photography for various individuals, stage performances, and events. Photography serves as a medium for communicating with the world. Past collaborations include: Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Chung Ying Theatre Company, Alice Theatre Laboratory, AFTEC, and others.

 

In addition to photography work, he has recently collaborated with different organisations to lead photography workshops and organise exhibitions. In 2023, he participated in the photography exhibition ‘Today After A Year?" organised by the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong with his work "Tinplate Babies and Their Playground" (《鐵皮寶寶與它們的遊樂場》). Inspired by landfills, he created "Tinplate Stars" and snapshots of their daily lives, responding to environmental concepts through photography. Same year, he also photographed a group of free-spirited young women in the Jockey Club 'FreeFlow' Body Movement Project, 'I Move Therefore I Am II". The works were exhibited at "VESSEL Discovery" in Kwun Tong Promenade.

 

Since 2022, he has been continuously organising street photography workshops as part of the “Project on Rebooting Arts in Central and Western District”, culminating in exhibitions that guide participants to create unique street memories by combining their experiences with the streets through photography.

 

He is currently actively preparing a selfie workshop, aiming to make the camera a tool for love and peace, encouraging participants to use selfies as a step towards self-love.

Dominic Lee, Actor

Dominic is a freelance actor who is passionate in performing and tap dancing. He graduated with a BA in English in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has completed the two-year Professional Physical Theatre Institute training programme by Tang Shu-Wing Theatre Studio.

 

He acted lead roles in New Asia Drama Club and Shaw Drama Club's productions during his study at CUHK. His other recent works include RnT's Cultural Ambassador Scheme Bye Bye Bad Luck, HK Disneyland's The Nightmare Before Dinner, and AFTEC's Strategy.

Alex Shung, Actor

With a Bachelor degree in Language Education (English) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Mr Shung has been working in the education field for nearly two decades. He used to teach English Language in both primary and secondary schools as a regular teacher but in the recent years he has been working as a slasher, which allows him to devote more time to drama education.

 

With a Master degree in Applied Theatre and Drama Education from Griffith University and the Hong Kong Art School, he has been facilitating drama competitions and school performances as an adjudicator, a director or a scriptwriter, engaging in applied theatres such as Playback Theatre and Forum Theatre, and conducting workshops on the use of Process Drama for student teachers and in-service teachers, as well as workshops on storytelling for parents. He believes drama can empower the participants to become more confident, more expressive, more reflective, more motivated, more honest.

Kwok Chun Lap Alex, Actor

Baritone, Alex Kwok received a Bachelor of Music (Honours) Degree from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in Voice, under the tutelage of baritone Albert Lim. Kwok was the selected young artist of Jockey Club Opera Hong Kong Young Artist Development and Education Programme 2019-2022. Kwok joined vocal masterclasses held by soprano Nelly Miricioiu, Joy Mammen, tenor Kunt Schoch, bass-baritone Shenyang and countertenor Michael Chance. Scholarships received during his studies include The Hong Kong Children's Choir Music Scholarship and the Sing Music Studio Scholarship.

In 2018, Kwok won the Espoir Prize in Art Song Group at the Osaka International Music Competition. His recent opera performances include Marchese d’Obigny in La Traviata by Verdi, Moralès in Carmen by Bizet, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Simone in La Finta Semplice by Mozart, Semele by Handel, Gianni Schicchi by Puccini, Otello and Aïda by Verdi, Les contes d'Hoffmann by Offenbach, Angel’s Bone by Du Yun. Kwok also performed in numerous concerts, including Puccini’s Messa a quattro voci, Haydn’s Salve Regina, Lang’s The Little Match Girl Passion and Beethoven’s Symphony No.9.

 Kwok has also performed in a number of Broadway Musicals and Original Musicals such as My Moon,Your Returns, Fame, High School Musical 2, Rent and Avenue Q. Kwok was the singing coach of the Musical Project – Rent presented by the The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Drama School.

Renee Ching, Actress

Graduated in 2024 from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, School of Drama, majoring in acting. She was a recipient of the Colin George Memorial Prize and was awarded the Grantham Scholarships for two consecutive years. She is currently a freelance actress and theatre practitioner.

 

School productions she participated included: Musical: ‘Bernarda Alba’, The Unthinkable Drama Festival 2024: ‘The Shape of Things’, Musical: ‘tick, tick...BOOM!’, Actors’ Family X HKAPA School of Drama Musical: ‘My Moon, Your Return’, and ‘Love and Information’. During her time at the Academy, she has been actively involved in various arts projects, serving as project coordinator and musician for Inclusive Community Arts Project ‘At The Moment’ and Tai Kwun online programme ‘Cheers!’.

 

Her other recent performances included: Playwright’s Studio 11 ‘Nameless…’, Class 7A Drama Group Musical ‘Love at First Snow’ (Internship), and Hong Kong Art Festival ‘The Suppliant Women’.

 

Prior to her study at HKAPA, she graduated from Hang Seng Management College, School of Communications, then worked as a full-time theme park performer.

Graduated from the double degree program of Chinese Language Studies (BA) and Chinese Language Education (BEd) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is now a primary school teacher. Hope that I can stay in the world of theatre and learn to be honest there.
