Chiu Wai Chi
“I can share my thoughts and feelings through the process of sand painting, freely and with no restrictions.”
Chiu Wai-chi (Chi) has been passionate in painting since young. Chi attained the Diploma in Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and further pursued studies in Drawing at the Slade School of Fine Art of University College London in 2015.
Chi has started her exploration in sand painting since 2010 and now works as a full-time sand artist and an art tutor. The works by Chi use elements of music and story to create plot outline and structure based on a certain theme and vividly present stories in light and shadows. For paintings, Chi mainly works in mediums of acrylics and watercolours. Her painting style is eclectic that varies from time to time and with bright bold colours.
Chi’s works has been commissioned by private and public institutions and presented in various performances and activities, for example, “The 12th Hong Kong Literature Festival – When Poetry Meets Sand Arts”, “China Construction Bank (Asia) Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival”, “Metro Radio Hins Cheung & Friends Concert”, “Sai Kung Chinese Orchestra Concert in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR” and guest appearance in the TV series “Come On, Cousin”.
