Arts are for Everyone
History & Mission
Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (ADAHK) has been established as a non-profit and charitable organisation since 1986. The Association is a member of the Access/VSA International Network 2024 and The Hong Kong Council of Social Service. With the vision of ‘Arts are for Everyone,’ ADAHK believes that everyone has the potential and talent for creativity and a right to enjoy to the fullest beauty and vitality of the arts. We are dedicated to providing holistic services to support the development of the arts amongst people with disabilities. We promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities to have access to and excel in the arts, and advocate for an inclusive society through the arts.
We believe:
- We are born different, and we respect our differences.
- It is a basic human right to participate in the arts and cultural activities.
- The arts have no boundaries. Everyone can be an artist.
- The arts are for everyone. They help us develop our potential.
Our Focus:
- Broad-based Arts Service
- Arts Education
- Professional Development
- Arts Accessibility
- Social Inclusion
- Social Enterprise
- International Network
- Advocacy
In the development of the arts for people with disabilities, ADAHK adopts a two-directional strategy: horizontal and vertical. The two directions are inter-related and complementary, as the horizontal development would naturally encourage a vertical development.
The horizontal development is a general education and public sensitivity campaign to reach as many people (with and without disabilities) as possible to provide equal opportunity for people with disabilities to participate in the learning and creation of art, and to sensitize the community of the rights and needs of people with disabilities to engage in the arts.
The vertical development is a series of programs to provide opportunities for professional training for people with disabilities to develop and nurture their artistic talents, and to promote excellence in their work.
The ADAHK Logo
The ADAHK logo, made up of two pieces of jigsaw puzzles, symbolizes a harmonious relations and mutual cooperation between people with and without disabilities. Through the arts and creativity, the lives of both would become as rich and colourful as the rainbow.
